Appeals Court tackles legal fight over proposed Pender County solar farm

The legal battle over a proposed 2,300-acre solar farm in Pender County headed Tuesday to North Carolina’s second-highest court. Coastal Pine Solar is asking the court to reverse a trial judge’s decision in the case. The trial court sided with Pender County commissioners, who rejected the solar operation in 2022.

The case sits now in federal court, where the state elections board is seeking a dismissal. The Republican National Committee and state Republican Party have filed a motion to send the case back to state court, where it was originally filed.

Hudson, Tillis lead NC Congressional GOP in urging use of Greensboro migrant facility for Helene victims

As cleanup and recovery continue in western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Rep. Richard Hudson, NC-09, and North Carolina US Sen. Thom Tillis led Republican members of North Carolina’s Congressional Delegation in a letter Saturday to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell urging the federal government to use the Greensboro Influx Care Facility (ICF) to house hurricane victims temporarily and/or as a staging area.

DPI seeks $166 million in disaster aid for NC schools

The most significant funding request is $150 million to cover the costs of building, equipment, and technology losses for items not covered by insurance. Based on current estimates of the damage, the funds would go toward repairs and renovations, as similarly provided during Hurricane Florence.
