In a letter to the State Board of Elections dated Nov. 18, Republican Gov. Pat McCrory formally requested a recount in his race against Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper. Noting that in the initial count of the ballots cast he was fewer than 10,000 votes behind Cooper, “I am statutorily entitled to a recount of the announced vote,” McCrory’s letter said.
The State Board of Elections held a hearing today to provide legal guidance to counties that face challenges or protests of individual ballots or the administration of the election. Check back with Carolina Journal for a full report on that hearing.
