Rep. John R. Bradford III, R-Mecklenburg, made it official Thursday by announcing his run for the state treasurer’s office.

In a tweet, Bradford said, “My experience as Sr, Chair of the NC House Finance Committee will serve me well while overseeing the financial operations of NC’s state government. I want to make a great state even greater.”

Last month, he said he was considering a run for the office after elected officials, lobbyists, and business owners encouraged him over the past few months to think about running after it was mentioned to him that Republican N.C. State Treasurer Dale Folwell may announce his own run for governor.

Bradford said he would maintain the integrity and health of the state pension plan by making intelligent investments and continuing to grow the pension plan. It will ensure that state employees are rewarded for all of the hard work they gave to the state.

Bradford, the business owner of Mooresville-based  Petscreening.com, was first elected to the General Assembly in 2014. He was also previously employed as a sales manager and sales executive with IBM and as an environmental engineer with ExxonMobil.
