North Carolina’s living former governors all back current Gov. Roy Cooper in his legal battle with legislative leaders over a law that would remake the State Board of Elections. They filed paperwork in the state Appeals Court Tuesday to submit a friend-of-the-court brief supporting Cooper.
Lawyers for Gov. Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein are asking the North Carolina Court of Appeals to uphold a trial court ruling blocking proposed changes to the makeup of the State Board of Elections. Cooper and Stein filed briefs Monday in a case called Cooper v. Berger. It pits the Democratic governor against Republican legislative leaders.
Since North Carolinians are elect new leaders, there’s good reason to approve Helene funds and programs in batches and include those leaders in future planning.
