On Wednesday, Rep. Richard Hudson, R-D9, was re-elected by his GOP colleagues to serve his second term as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

“I am humbled by my colleagues’ vote of confidence to continue to lead the effort to hold our House majority for another term,” said Hudson in a statement. “I sought this role because the people in my district are fed up with the direction of the country. Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, they are less prosperous and less safe. The American people have spoken. They want change and have given Republicans an opportunity to clean up the Democrats’ mess. If we deliver on our promise to lower prices, secure the border, and unleash American energy, I am confident the American people will reward us at the ballot box in 2026.  I am ready to get back to work.”

“Hudson’s decision means that all of the House GOP’s top leaders are running to stay in their posts for the next Congress,” according to a report by the Hill from earlier this week. The internal GOP election took place on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Hudson sent a letter asking for his colleague’s support, according to a report by The Hill, in which he said, “Democrats will do anything to win.” He warned that without “seasoned leadership,” the Democratic party could “steal this majority and spend the final two years of President Trump’s term bogging down his agenda with sham investigations and impeachments. We cannot let that happen.”

Hudson was elected to his first term as chairman in 2022 when he became the highest-ranking Republican member of Congress in the history of North Carolina.

Hudson’s role as chairman places him fourth in line to be Speaker of the House. Hudson was first elected to the House in 2012. He was first elected to House Republican leadership as Conference Secretary under the 117th Congress.

On Wednesday evening, the GOP secured the 218 seats needed to ensure a majority in the House following a Republican win in Arizona and a win in California, according to an AP report. Republicans had already secured a majority in the Senate following last week’s election.

Hudson put out the following statement concerning the House majority win on Thursday.

“They said it couldn’t be done, but the American people have spoken,” said Hudson in his statement. “As Chairman of the NRCC it has been my mission since day one to hold our House majority. Today it is clear that we accomplished that mission. Even through a historically tumultuous cycle, our team never lost focus and never stopped working. Americans are fed up with extreme Democrats who threw open the border, set inflation on fire, and invited drugs and crime to flood our communities. With a Republican House majority, President Donald Trump back in the White House, and a new Senate majority, help is on the way. I am looking forward to working with my newly elected colleagues to clean up Democrats’ mess with an America First agenda.”
