• While we don’t know if the congressional districts drawn last month in a special session of the General Assembly will stand up in federal court, candidate filing for the scheduled June 7 primary is under way. All incumbents have said they’ll seek re-election, but here are the incumbents and challengers who had filed as of earlier today:

2nd District: Incumbent Republicans Ellmers and George Holding, who now represents the 13th.

3rd District (represented by Republican Walter Jones): Republican Phil Law.

4th District: Incumbent Democrat Price, Republicans Sue Googe and Teiji Kimball.

5th District: GOP incumbent Virginia Foxx, Republican Pattie Curran, and Democrat Jim Roberts.

7th District (represented by Republican David Rouzer): Democrat J. Wesley Casteen.

8th District (represented by Republican Richard Hudson): Republican Tim D’Annunzio.

9th District: Republican incumbent Robert Pittenger, Republican Todd Johnson, and Democrat Christian Cano.

10th District: Republican incumbent Patrick McHenry and Democrat Andy Millard.

11th District (represented by Republican Mark Meadows): Democrat Tom Hill.

13th District: Republican John Blust and Democrat Bruce Davis.

• Speaking of Ellmers, the embattled representative said she voted for Donald Trump in last week’s GOP presidential primary. UPDATE: Ellmers sent an email today urging others to support Trump.

• Another familiar figure in the 2nd District, conservative talk show host and financial adviser Frank Roche, announced he would not run this time. He sought the 2014 GOP nomination against Ellmers and ran unsuccessfully in 2012 for the GOP nomination for state treasurer.

• If the judicial “retention election” plan by the General Assembly does not survive a court challenge, the Board of Elections has allowed candidates to file for the seat on the Supreme Court by Justice Bob Edmunds, a Republican. Edmunds and Sabra Faires, an unaffiliated attorney and one of three plaintiffs challenging the law, have filed for the seat.
