    Stein’s lawyers urge N.C. Supreme Court to speed review of Leandro school funding case

    Lawyers from the N.C. Justice Department are asking the state’s highest court to speed up its review of recent developments in a long-running school funding lawsuit. A brief filed Friday at the N.C. Supreme Court asks justices to restart the clock for lawyers working on the case known as Leandro.

    Legislature’s critics urge U.S. Supreme Court to reject redistricting appeal

    Opponents of the N.C. General Assembly’s legal arguments about election maps are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject an appeal from state legislative leaders. Lawmakers filed paperwork in March asking the Supreme Court to take up a dispute over the N.C. congressional map.

    Organized retail theft could carry stiffer criminal penalties, under a bill filed this week at the N.C. General Assembly. Some offenses could lead to prison sentences of up to 15 years.
