Not surprisingly, Republicans friendly to business, NCFREE report shows

A new N.C. Free Enterprise Foundation report shows Republican lawmakers scored an average of 91.95% on business-related decisions during the 2019 legislative session. Friday Interview: A More Business-Friendly Legislature in 2011

RALEIGH — On the campaign trail in 2010, Republicans who wanted to take over the North Carolina General Assembly promised to help create jobs by pursuing policies friendlier to business. They won, and they’ve had a year to follow through on those promises. John Rustin, executive director of the N.C. Free Enterprise Foundation, recently rated the General Assembly on business-friendly measures. Rustin discussed the NCFEF ratings with Mitch Kokai for Carolina Journal Radio.

Tax Foundation Ranks N.C. Business Tax Climate 10th Worst in Nation

RALEIGH — North Carolina earns the dubious distinction this week of joining the Tax Foundation’s list of the top 10 states with the worst business tax climates. The John Locke Foundation’s top budget expert places much of the blame on recent sales-tax increases. Voters in 11 counties will decide Nov. 2 whether to raise sales-tax rates even higher.
