Federal shutdown could delay action in NC election lawsuit

The US Department of Justice is asking a federal judge to place a hold on the lawsuit pitting the federal government against North Carolina’s State Board of Elections. The partial federal government shutdown prompted the request for a stay in the case.

Amendment One Suit Takes Turn

RALEIGH — Lawyers in the North Carolina Attorney General’s office have asked a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit that challenges the state’s constitutional amendment to allow local tax-increment financing, in part because they say they sought approval for the change from the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
