The North Carolina Court of Appeals has ruled against two Asheville journalists challenging trespass convictions related to their arrests at a 2021 protest. It’s the second time this year the state’s second-highest court has ruled against the journalists.

Federal Appeals Court upholds conviction in Fayetteville Market House burning

The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the federal conviction of a man who admitted to setting fire to Fayetteville’s downtown Market House during a protest in 2020. The building located in a traffic circle downtown has attracted criticism because of its ties to the pre-Civil War slave trade.

Griffin asks Appeals Court to order decision on election protests by Tuesday

Republican North Carolina Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin is turning to North Carolina’s second-highest court for an order that would force state election officials to make a final decision about Griffin’s election protests Tuesday. The State Board of Elections had planned to hear oral arguments about the protests the following day, according to a document Griffin filed Friday with the state Court of Appeals.

Appeals Court throws out order against Durham social services protester

The North Carolina Court of Appeals has thrown out a trial judge’s order against the leader of a group protesting against the Durham County Department of Social Services. Appellate judges ruled that the trial court needed to provide additional information justifying the order.
