Hearing scheduled Wednesday in former provost’s suit against UNC

A court hearing is scheduled Wednesday afternoon in former Provost Chris Clemens’ open meetings and public records lawsuit against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The hearing in Hillsborough will address Clemens’ motion this week for “expedited discovery, preservation order, forensic imaging, and in camera review” in the case.

North Carolina’s second-highest court will consider a public records lawsuit involving the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s possible role in the origin of COVID-19. A group seeking access to university records filed its opening brief Tuesday with the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

NC State drops course requirement, as Trump moves to eliminate DEI in higher ed

In response to the Executive Order, the University of North Carolina System is directing chancellors to review required courses for college students. On February 10th, NC State's provost office notified all students, staff, and faculty via email that the university is suspending the US DEI requirement in accordance with a system-wide memo sent to chancellors at all 17 UNC institutions.

Appeals Court blocks UNC digital ID as voter ID for 2024

The North Carolina Court of Appeals has ruled that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s digital identification cannot be used as voter ID in North Carolina’s election this fall. A unanimous three-judge appellate panel issued on Friday afternoon a temporary injunction and an order called a writ of supersedeas. The writ blocks a lower court order that would have allowed state election officials to count the digital UNC ID as a valid voter ID.
