Appeals Court blocks certification of 2023 Pembroke mayor’s race

The North Carolina Court of Appeals has blocked certification of the 2023 Pembroke mayor’s race as Mayor Greg Cummings continues to challenge the results. Challenger Allen Dial leads Cummings by 19 votes (197 to 178), according to State Board of Elections records of the November 2023 contest. But Cummings has been challenging those results for more than a year.

Riggs, elections board signal plans to take ballot dispute back to federal court

The North Carolina State Board of Elections and state Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs plan to take a ballot dispute back to federal court if they lose at the state court level. The board and Riggs both filed court documents Thursday confirming their plans to return to federal court if state courts rule in favor of Riggs’ opponent, Jefferson Griffin.
