Video sweepstakes operator urges top NC court to clarify law
A video sweepstakes operator is asking North Carolina’s highest court for help determining how its business can move forward legally.
The North Carolina Court of Appeals has ruled, 2-1, against a video sweepstakes operator challenging local and state law enforcement bans against its machines operating in Robeson County. The decision Tuesday reversed a trial judge, who issued a preliminary injunction last year favoring the sweepstakes business.
A unanimous state Court of Appeals panel issued an order Monday blocking a lower court ruling in a Robeson County video sweepstakes case. The lower court had granted an injunction in June favoring a sweepstakes operator.
The owner of video sweepstakes games targeted in a Robeson County case is asking the state Court of Appeals to reject a request from state law enforcement leaders. Those leaders want the state’s second-highest court to block a trial court order allowing the sweepstakes business to continue operations.
