Federal Appeals Court wrestles with proper venue for NC election dispute

The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals spent 90 minutes Monday afternoon — more than twice as much time as scheduled — listening to arguments about the proper venue for resolving Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin’s challenge of ballots cast in the Nov. 5 election.

Griffin seeks NC Supreme Court stay, elections board appeals to 4th Circuit

Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin is asking that court for a temporary stay blocking certification of his election against appointed incumbent Democrat Allison Riggs. Meanwhile, the State Board of Elections is asking the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals to step into the dispute.

Federal judge sends Griffin’s NC Supreme Court election complaint back to state court

A federal judge decided Monday to send Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin’s election complaint back to North Carolina’s highest court. US Chief District Judge Richard Myers’ order arrived four days before the State Board of Elections is scheduled to certify Democrat Allison Riggs as the winner of the Nov. 5 election.

Griffin defends request to send NC ballot dispute back to state court

Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin filed a motion Friday evening asking a federal judge to send Griffin’s legal dispute with the North Carolina State Board of Elections back to state court. Griffin also seeks an injunction blocking the elections board from certifying the results of the Nov. 5 Supreme Court election.
