North Carolina’s permitless concealed carry bill—the Freedom to Carry NC Act—cleared another hurdle Tuesday with a narrow 6–5 vote in the House Judiciary 2 Committee.
“This is the next step in creating a freer North Carolina,” said Senate bill sponsors.
Despite flaws, HB 5 and SB 50 allow NC to join 29 “red” states that have already passed permitless carry to enhance personal protection and crime deterrence.
Keeping guns out of the hands of violent felons would do more to prevent gun violence than anything else, but progressive DAs frequently drop these charges.
“We're now up to 29 states with constitutional carry. If I can get it through North Carolina, we'll be number 30. And there's really no reason not to," said bill sponsor Rep. Keith Kidwell, R-Beaufort.
