NC Senate passes election bills shortening early voting, adding audits

A federal judge has agreed that no further action will take place in the US Justice Department’s voter registration lawsuit against North Carolina election officials while the federal government remains shut down.
The US Department of Justice is asking a federal judge to place a hold on the lawsuit pitting the federal government against North Carolina’s State Board of Elections. The partial federal government shutdown prompted the request for a stay in the case.
