At a time the state is scrambling for dollars, why launch an expensive, redundant new program?
RALEIGH — Many North Carolinians, especially in rural areas, suffer from lack of dental care. Would a $100 million new dental school at East Carolina University provide it? The General Assembly is pondering that question.
CHAPEL HILL — A University of North Carolina Board of Governors committee Thursday gave approval to plans for a dental school at East Carolina University. The full Board of Governors will vote today on whether to give final approval to the creation of the state’s second dental school.
All of the schools in the UNC system pay lip service to a general education program that is supposed to ensure that students graduate with a well-rounded, fundamental education in addition to their major courses. East Carolina University says it will “engender a broad liberal arts base” in its students.
