VIDEO: N.C. Senate Leaders Unveil Tax, Incentive Plan

RALEIGH — N.C. Senate leaders are touting a new plan to lower corporate tax rates, use the so-called “single sales factor” for calculating corporate taxes, create a new targeted incentive for large-scale manufacturers, and tweak existing targeted incentive programs. Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, led a Wednesday afternoon news conference unveiling the plan.

Friday Interview: N.C. Tax Reforms To Benefit Every Income Group

RALEIGH — Taxpayers in every income category will save tens of millions of dollars because of state tax reforms enacted in North Carolina in 2013. In addition to benefits for every income group from last year’s reforms, the conservative-led N.C. General Assembly is also responsible for a 2011 states sales tax rate reduction. Combine the 2011 and 2013 reforms, and lower- and middle-income households will enjoy annual savings of $682 million. Dr. Roy Cordato, John Locke Foundation vice president for research and resident scholar, discussed a report on the impact of recent state tax reforms with Donna Martinez for Carolina Journal Radio.

JLF Study Finds Research Support for Fiscal Conservatives’ Approach to Growth

RALEIGH — The past quarter-century of academic scholarship suggests state and local officials can promote economic growth by keeping overall tax and regulatory burdens as low as possible, investing effectively in public safety and the courts, and increasing productivity of spending on infrastructure and education.
