State regulators have approved an additional 70 hospital beds and four operating rooms for hospitals in Wake County, a far cry from the 246 hospital beds and 13 operating rooms that were requested. Some of those beds and rooms were also included in requests for three new hospitals which were also rejected.
In its fifth semi-annual report examining hospitals’ compliance with the federal Hospital Price Transparency Rule, PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) found that. North Carolina came in 7th place in the U.S. for hospital price transparency.
The state has given WakeMed preliminary approval to build a new hospital in Garner and a new mental health hospital in Knightdale. The state also approved adding beds to both Duke Raleigh and UNC Rex hospitals.
