New FARM AI Act to expand AI research, training at USDA
Davis introduces House companion to Budd's Senate FARM AI bill that would integration of AI in agriculture through research and training.
The block grant covers the 39 counties with presidential or secretarial disaster declarations related to Hurricane Helene damage. It targets losses to farm infrastructure, perennial crop production, poultry and aquaculture operations, commodities, select value-added products, and timber.
North Carolina has 18 research stations, six of which are under the umbrella of North Carolina State University, with the remaining 12 being owned and operated by NCDA&CS.
NC Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler told the House Ag Committee that while Helene recovery could take years, state disaster relief funding has been a lifesaver for farmers.
As part of the USDA's decentralization, the department's research division will be moving to Raleigh.

Disaster assistance will only cover losses from Hurricane Helene that any other USDA programs have not covered.
The “Product of USA” label became effective on Jan. 1 and is exclusively for meat, poultry, and egg products born, raised, harvested, and processed in the United States.
“The online portal will allow us to obtain verifiable information about foreign interests in American agricultural land and protect the security of our farmers,” said secretary of agriculture Brooke Rollins

Applications for Phase 2 of disaster relief funding for farmers will soon open.
