Most NC Schools Don’t Make Goals

RALEIGH — Release of certified adequate yearly progress (AYP) results won’t occur until September, said NC School Superintendent Mike Ward at the 2003 AYP video conference in July. AYP results measure how student groups, schools, and districts are doing in meeting the goals of the No Child Left Behind federal education law. The state will release the official results for AYP in the fall, at the same time that state ABC’s scores become available to the public. Early data show that about 47 percent of NC schools will likely make their AYP goals in every category.
