Stein and Hunt win victories over Robinson and Weatherman for NC governor and lieutenant governor

In unofficial results from Tuesday's general election, Democrat North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein has won the race for North Carolina’s next governor with 54.8% (3,036,034) of the vote, easily beating his Republican opponent Mark Robinson with 40.1% (2,224,955), a 15-point difference.

GOP groups appeal overseas voter case to top NC court

State and national Republican groups are asking the North Carolina Supreme Court to intervene in a lawsuit challenging state election officials’ approach to overseas voters. A trial judge and the state Appeals Court have ruled against the Republican National Committee, North Carolina Republican Party, and two individual plaintiffs. They are suing the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

The North Carolina Court of Appeals will not block a trial judge’s order against Republican groups challenging state election rules dealing with overseas voters. An unnamed three-judge Appeals Court panel issued an order Tuesday denying GOP groups' request for a stay, injunction, or order blocking the trial court's Oct. 21 decision in the case.

A Wake County Superior Court judge rejected an injunction Monday in Republican groups’ lawsuit challenging North Carolina rules for overseas voters taking part in this year’s election.
