Federal Appeals Court unseals video in 2019 Charlotte law enforcement shooting

The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals has granted a Charlotte television station’s request to unseal law enforcement video footage linked to a 2019 shooting involving two police officers. A federal trial judge had rejected WBTV’s request.

NC Supreme Court rules against former trooper in ‘good moral character’ case

The North Carolina Supreme Court has reversed lower court decisions and ruled against a former state trooper seeking to be recertified as a law enforcement officer in the state. A state commission had determined that plaintiff Maurice Devalle lacked “good moral character.”

Charlotte police officer gets second chance to seek immunity in shooting lawsuit

A federal Appeals Court is giving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer another chance to seek immunity from a lawsuit based on her mistaken shooting of an FBI officer in 2019. The court decided Wednesday to send the case back to a trial judge.

Appeals Court revives lawsuit against Highway Patrol trooper who caused fatal crash

The North Carolina Court of Appeals will allow the mother of an East Carolina University student killed in a 2020 car crash to pursue a lawsuit against the State Highway Patrol trooper who caused the accident. The 2-1 Appeals Court decision Tuesday reversed a trial judge’s ruling  favoring Trooper Omar Romero Mendoza.
