Democrats, Elias clients challenge settlement of federal NC election dispute

The Democratic National Committee and a group working with Democratic operative Marc Elias’ law firm are challenging the recent deal ending a lawsuit between the US Justice Department and North Carolina’s election board. Both the DNC and Elias’ client filed paperwork in federal court Tuesday. Both groups urge US Chief District Judge Richard Myers to revisit their requests to enter the case as defendants.

The US Department of Justice and North Carolina State Board of Elections filed a joint motion Wednesday for a court order ending a federal lawsuit over incomplete voter registrations. The motion filed Wednesday with US Chief District Judge Richard Myers would resolve the complaint the federal government filed against the state elections board in May.
