Federal Appeals Court rejects former CMS student’s sexual-assault case

The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected various arguments from a former student who sued Charlotte and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in connection with an alleged sexual assault near Myers Park High School in 2015. The suit also named a school resource officer and assistant principal.

A man who lost two fingers after a 2020 protest in Charlotte can proceed with a federal First Amendment lawsuit against the city and police officers. A federal judge issued an order Friday allowing that portion of the lawsuit to move forward.

Federal Appeals Court revives lawsuit against Charlotte over fatal police shooting

A split 2-1 ruling from the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals will allow a lawsuit to proceed against the city of Charlotte in a fatal 2017 shooting by a police officer. Appellate judges revived most of a suit that had been tossed out by a trial judge.
