Federal Appeals Court grants stay to Riggs, Democrats in NC election dispute

A federal Appeals Court panel split 2-1 Tuesday in granting a stay and injunction requested by Democratic state Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs in the election dispute involving her high court seat. The Appeals Court blocked a process North Carolina's highest court endorsed for resolving last fall's election result.

Riggs leads Griffin for NC Supreme Court by 24 votes

Supreme Court candidate Allison Riggs (D) now leads Republican Jefferson Griffin (R) by just 24 votes out of 5.7 million cast on November 5, following Friday's canvass of the election. With some counties' votes still incomplete, the North Carolina State Board of Elections announced on Friday that the canvass process will continue into next week.
