Carney Exposes Another Ripoff

Readers will find their blood pressure rising as Carney takes us through the vast corporate welfare tucked into ObamaCare, the environmental crusade’s “cap and trade” legislation, Obama’s favoritism toward the United Auto Workers and the car companies it has done so much to ruin, the administration’s fondness for regulations that help big business stifle competition from smaller rivals, and, perhaps most disgustingly of all, the Wall Street bailout.

Fall of Auto Industry a Tale With as Many Questions as Answers

Classical theory holds that enterprises must be allowed to fail, to experience “creative destruction,” because they own assets which need to be reorganized. The Constitution does not decree that there be a General Motors, Chrysler, or Ford, nor does it allow Congress to spend money on them or any business enterprise. There is no longer a Pierce Arrow, Studebaker, Hudson, or Willys-Overland, and government did not rush to save them. Chrysler bought Willys and its Jeep model and has enjoyed great success with those vehicles.

Federal Incentives Ruling Will Stand

RALEIGH — The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati last week declined to reconsider a decision by its own three-member panel of judges, who in September struck down certain targeted tax credits as unconstitutional. The next stop for the case — which has drawn major national attention — appears to be an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. The State of Ohio and the City of Toledo had petitioned the full 12-member court to rehear the case after the panel declared that economic development incentives given to DaimlerChrysler violated the interstate Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
