After months of speculation regarding who former President Donald Trump would tap as a potential vice president, Trump announced Monday his selection of US Senator from Ohio, J.D. Vance, as running mate.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association. J.D.’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond …”
“As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump continued. “Congratulations to Senator J.D. Vance, his wife, Usha, who also graduated from Yale Law School, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024!”
Vance, 39, is in his first term as a US Senator.
Reacting to the pick, chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Congressman Richard Hudson, R-9, said Vance was a fantastic choice.
“Senator JD Vance is a fantastic choice to serve as Vice President,” Hudson said in a. press release. “Born of humble beginnings, he pulled himself up by his bootstraps, served in our military, and was elected to the United States Senate — a living embodiment of the American Dream. Along with President Trump and Senator Vance, I look forward to bringing relief to weary Americans besieged by Biden’s weak leadership by taking back the White House and growing the Republican House majority.”
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC, said, “Congratulations to my friend J.D. Vance! He’s a super smart, down to earth guy and a champion for working-class Americans.”
“I’ve gotten to know @JDVance1 as a Senate colleague and classmate,” said, Sen Ted Budd, R-NC, in a post on X. “I am privileged to call him a friend and it will be my honor next January to call him Vice President of the United States.”
Trump was officially nominated to be the Republican Party’s nominee earlier Monday.
