Raleigh, N.C. – The Wake County School Board has begun official discussions to change the district’s longstanding student assignment policy.

The newly elected school board majority unveiled its intention to create a controlled choice assignment policy. It would give parents some choice of where to send their kids for school. Board member John Tedesco is the architect of the plan. He says he would like to see the school district broken into smaller geographic areas, so parents could choose schools close to home. Other board members want to apply controls for some diversity in the schools.
