Using the latest court case involving North Carolina’s election maps as a backdrop, the N.C. Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform is touting once again the benefits of redistricting reform. The coalition sponsored a Wednesday afternoon news conference outside the federal courthouse in Greensboro.

A three-judge federal panel in that courthouse is hearing another legal challenge of state legislative districts approved in 2011. Those districts already have survived one court case. Voters have used those districts for elections in 2012 and 2014. Still, opponents hope to have the districts thrown out before voters head back to the polls in November.

Meanwhile, the coalition is urging lawmakers to consider scrapping the current election mapmaking process before the next round of redistricting in 2021. Click play above t0 watch this afternoon’s briefing.
