It’s not uncommon to hear commuters in N.C. cities discuss their frustrations with traffic, but according to a new study by Wallet Hub, the state’s drivers are more fortunate than most. Raleigh was ranked the No. 1 city in the nation for drivers, with Greensboro and Winston-Salem not too far behind at No. 4 and No. 5 out of the 100 largest American cities.
The cities were ranked on 30 different “key indicators of driver-friendliness,” according to Wallet Hub.
Raleigh performed especially well in the cost of owning and maintaining a vehicle (fifth) and overall safety (sixth). Greensboro was second overall in the number of hours spent in traffic.
While North Carolina’s largest city did not crack the top of the list, Charlotte still did relatively well, ranking 26th overall out of 100.
The worst city in the nation for drivers was Philadelphia, followed by Detroit, Oakland, San Francisco, and Chicago.
