Jennifer Balkcom to replace Edwards on NC-11 ballot

Rep. Jennifer Balkcom was selected by NC-11 Republicans to replace Chuck Edwards on the November ballot and will face Democrat Jamie Ager.

NC needs these elections safeguards

The NC General Assembly passed two bills that will help to ensure that the law gives every eligible voter the right and ability to cast a ballot and to ensure that the votes cast will be counted accurately. 

No seat for NC board of education on new high school redesign commission

A bill the General Assembly ratified Aug. 6 creates a 15-member commission to redesign North Carolina's high schools, giving four private organizations seats on it along with the job of staffing it and drafting its reports. The State Board of Education has no appointments at all.

Stein pulls Smythe DPS nomination, blames NC Senate for inaction

The governor has appointed NC DPS Chief of Staff Casandra Hoekstra to serve as interim secretary while a search is conducted to find the next permanent secretary.
