RALEIGH — As a Winter Storm Helena heads toward North Carolina, the Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has decided to postpone the inauguration of Gov. Roy Cooper.

Cooper’s inauguration, originally set for 10 a.m. Saturday in front of the State Archives Building, had already been moved inside to Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium. But the inaugural committee, after consulting with the state’s emergency management division,  thought it best to postpone all of Saturday’s and Sunday’s activities.

An inaugural weekend prayer service will still be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church on Wilmington Street. The oath of office ceremony for Council of State officers will be held at the Executive Mansion on Friday.
