Group raises awareness of scams targeting seniors in NC

With scams targeting senior citizens on the rise, members of the North Carolina Senior Consumer Fraud Task Force representing the offices of North Carolina Secretary of State, North Carolina Insurance Commission, and State Attorney General, along with the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, United Way of North Carolina, and AARP North Carolina, wanted to bring awareness of such fraud at a press conference Wednesday at the NC Secretary of State’s office.

NC wildfire updates at NC Council of State meeting

North Carolina's Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said that firefighters continue to battle wildfires in western North Carolina due to drought conditions. Since November 1, there have been 622 wildfires burning state and private land in the region.

NC K-3 early-literacy skills exceed the rest of the country

Children in grades K-3 in North Carolina have surpassed the rest of the nation when it comes to their early literacy skills. That’s according to NC Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt, who shared the news at Tuesday’s Council of State meeting.
