ROSE HILL – The two men running to replace Sen. Charlie Albertson in the General Assembly claim the other is hitting below the belt with campaign mailers. There is no clear polling in the race for Senate District 10 between Republican Brent Jackson and Democrat Dewey Hudson. Jackson is a melon farmer, while Hudson is the area’s longtime district attorney.

The mailers claim, among other things, that Hudson failed to properly prosecute an illegal immigrant who ultimately drove drunk and killed a teacher in Brunswick County and Jackson failed to care for a migrant worker who suffered a severe heat stroke. It caused the Mexican to enter a coma. His family was finally paid $4 million by an insurance company.

Both men deny the claims their opponents make in the mailers.
