RALEIGH – A bill empowering law enforcement agencies to collect DNA samples when someone is arrested for a felony cleared the N.C. House Judiciary I Committee. Opponents say the bill violates suspects’ 4th Amendment rights against unlawful searches and seizures. They also say the bill risks exposing individuals’ genetic information. Supporters say it will help investigators track down suspects faster.
