The two candidates for N.C. Senate District 9 agree that spending cuts are on the horizon. The cuts are needed to bridge an anticipated $3 billion deficit next year. Democrat Jim Leutze says new taxes will be essential. Republican Thom Goolsby says the gap can be closed with spending cuts.

The candidates are running to fill the open seat left vacant by Democrat Julia Boseman, who ran for a judicial seat and lost in the primary.
