The Republican candidate for North Carolina’s 10th House District will likely file a lawsuit within a week against his incumbent opponent.

Stephen LaRoque says Rep. R. Van Braxton falsely accuses him of several crimes in two recent mailers. The pamphlets accuse LaRoque of using his lending business to steal a restaurant owner’s company and home. LaRoque denies all accusations in the brochures.

It is the second campaign mailer paid for by the North Carolina Democratic Party that could land a candidate and the party in court. As CarolinaJournal.tv reported Sept. 24, a party-funded mailer accused Senate District 11 Republican nominee Buck Newton of being arrested on drug charges in 1990. Court records show the charges were dismissed due to mistaken identity.

LaRoque says his lawsuit could be filed as early as Thursday, but more likely it will be filed next week.
