House Rules Committee Chairman Tim Moore, R-Cleveland, introduce “Laura’s Law,” toughening penalties against defendants convicted multiple times for drunken driving offenses.

Under the proposed law, those convicted could face added prison time, increased fines, and longer periods under alcohol monitoring. The bill is named for Laura Fortenberry, a Gaston County teen killed last year by a four-time offender.
