Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Perdue offered a mixed bag in her state of the state address Monday night.
She proposed cutting the state’s corporate income tax to 4.9%. It will no doubt be popular with Republican legislative leaders. A less popular element will be her determination to continue relying on business incentives. The cash handouts and tax benefits offered to new companies are not popular with opponents.
She also proposed a new program offering free two-year degrees for high school students. She did not release details on the proposed cost.
Perdue also did not mention whether her budget proposal will include extending the temporary sales tax enacted in 2009.
