N.C. State’s Mell questions myth of medieval Jewish moneylenders

You might have heard the story about Jews’ critical role in the medieval European economy — serving as moneylenders at a time when others avoided that important job. A new book from N.C. State University history professor Julie Mell shows how that story is largely based on myth.

Mell shared details from her research during a presentation Monday for the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society.
