Pinehurst, N.C. – On the same day Governor Perdue unveiled her vision for North Carolina’s future, a campaign donor paid a $150,000 fine for illegal contributions.

Former state senator Fred Hobbs admitted to illegally donating to Perdue, former Governor Mike Easley, former Lieutenant Governor Dennis Wicker and President Pro Tem of the Senate Marc Basnight’s campaigns. He was not present at the board of elections. A lawyer spoke for him.

In all Hobbs admitted to illegally donating $148,000. He is from Moore County, and the district attorney there is conducting a criminal investigation of the donations. Hobbs runs an architecture firm.

Meanwhile, Perdue laid out sweeping plan to make government more efficient and affordable. She warned government workers that there would be lay-offs before the state’s next budget is finalized.
