Recent events in Ukraine have boosted national interest in nearby Moldova, one of the N.C. National Guard’s two partner states. The coordinator of the Guard’s State Partnership Program discussed Moldova’s challenges during today’s John Locke Foundation Shaftesbury Society meeting.

Like Ukraine, Moldova has a recent history of territorial conflict. N.C. National Guard Maj. Clay Jackson outlined challenges for Moldova related to the breakaway district of Transnistria. Jackson works with military counterparts in Moldova and the African nation of Botswana as part of the State Partnership Program.
