Chaos in New Orleans grabbed the headlines, but Mississippi actually took a larger hit than Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast in 2005. Mississippi residents pulled together and recovered as quickly as possible, generating many positive stories of compassion and resilience.

Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour shares that message in his book America’s Great Storm, and he shared key themes from the book during a John Locke Foundation Headliner luncheon Wednesday in Raleigh.
