Local factors are likely to play a larger role than statewide issues in this year’s N.C. legislative elections, and no one should expect a major shift in partisan control of either the state House or Senate. That’s the assessment from the head of a group that monitors statewide elections from a business perspective.

Joe Stewart, executive director of the N.C. FreeEnterprise Foundation, answered a question about state legislative races after delivering a speech Monday to the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society. The speech focused on humorous anecdotes from state and national political history.

In the video clip below, Stewart offers his assessment of elections to the N.C. General Assembly, where Republicans hold a 77-43 majority in the House and 33-17 margin in the Senate.
